The Quaich (Cuach in Gaelic) is traditionally offered as a cup of welcome or farewell. The shallow cup with two handles (lugs) was originally made from wood, horn or leather and later from pewter or silver. These miniquaichs come at a realistic price for taking home to your friends as gifts.

MACNEIL CLANSMAN by RR McIAN
R R McIan is famed for his nineteenth century paintings, some 64 in all, of Highland clansmen of the day. The MacNeil clansman riding a native pony is a particularly fine example of McIan’s work.
Strong and sturdy native ponies like these carried a normal weight of adult with ease and were to be found throughout the Highlands and islands of Scotland .A survivor of these ponies, now classed as a Rare Breed, is found on the nearby island of Eriskay.
Going back in history this would be the little grey palfrey of Bruce at the battle of Bannockburn where the MacNeil Chieftain was prominent in his support of the Scottish king.

In prints of Ann McNeill’s painting “Bannockburn the Aftermath” the latin version of the MacNeil Clan motto “VINCERE VEL MORI” can be clearly seen on the MacNeil chief’s banner.
